This weekend I am disconnecting from everything, except my route!
Learn to prepare your activities with precision and navigate them safely
Hello! I am Lena Berger, I am 47 years old and I am a big fan of exploring the mountains.
This weekend I have decided to discover a new area that I've been wanting to explore with my Camper for some time. I don't know it, so I want to prepare my route without complicating things, with the peace of mind of knowing that everything is under control. I'll do it with the tools of the TwoNav Ecosystem.
I am going to explain my tricks to prepare and navigate my activities in a practical and simple way.

In search of inspiration
Since I don't know the area, instead of drawing my itinerary path from scratch, to be safer and get off to a good start, I will rely on routes from other users for this area. Then I will look for detailed maps of the place and mark the most interesting places in the area. I'll explain how to do it!
1. Komoot
There are many enthusiasts who have been there before me and have traveled those same trails, so I take advantage of their experience and connect to Komoot to compare routes and find several alternatives.
A tip: Don't settle for the first route you find; review all the options Komoot offers, evaluate different routes by analyzing the most important data provided by the platform: duration of the activity, slope, accumulated elevation...
I'll show you how to do it:
2. Wikiloc
It never hurts to check out other platforms to expand available options and discover routes that might not appear in top results. Besides Komoot, in my case, I will also visit Wikiloc, another very popular platform, to explore routes other users have already recorded in my area and check their ratings and comments.
Review several proposals and compare them. Also analyze the photos and opinions to get a more accurate idea of the route before deciding which one best suits your plan.
I'll show you how to do it:
3. TwoNav public routes
They are routes from all over the world covering multiple sports (hiking, mountaineering, MTB, road cycling, cycle touring, trail running...) that you can download for free to plan your next outing.
I'll show you how to do it:
4. Other online route servers

Adapt the route to myself
Since it's a new area for me, I want to make sure I work with reliable maps that provide detailed information about the location, so I can explore the place more mindfully, knowing what the terrain and slopes are like.
1. Find the most suitable map for the location
Además de los mapas gratuitos de todo el mundo que me proporciona Land, the route planner also opens the door to use more specialized cartography from publishers and geographic institutes in each country. There are many types of maps; I will use the maps that provide me with the most information to better understand the area where I'll be moving.
2. Create a waypoint database of the area
Once I have the right map and an initial route proposal, I create a small database by marking the most relevant points of interest in the area: water sources, crossroads, mountain shelters, viewpoints, or any useful reference.
I'll show you how to do it:
3. Edit the route layout
Even though the downloaded route is a good base, I always review and modify it adapting it to my physical condition and effort limits. First, I will add an optional visit, so I have a plan B in case I make good time. Finally, in the last section, I will change the original layout and move it to a more accessible path without as much incline.
In your case, having a high-quality map of the place, you can now also generate your own itinerary by lengthening, shortening, or adding alternative shortcuts to the route, feeling confident that you have good knowledge of the area you will be navigating.
I'll show you how to do it:
4. Add roadbook points
Convertir el recorrido en un roadbook allows me to add maneuvers at important crossroads, detours, or doubtful points where it's easy to make a mistake. I make sure that during navigation I will have no doubts and can check these notes on the screen; this way I don't solely rely on the track line, I have references I wrote myself that make the itinerary clearer and safer.

Analysis of the route and its difficulty
Once I have the route planned, before finalizing it, it's important to spend a few minutes analyzing its difficulty and evaluating the critical points of the route. That way, we'll know if the track we've drawn is manageable.
1. Analyze the route
We'll start by reviewing the distances and measuring the elevation gain; it's important to do this review to be aware of the time and physical effort we will need to complete the activity.
If you think it's too much, edit the route again and adapt it by adjusting the layout, reducing the distance, or avoiding the most demanding segments until it better fits your level and goals.
I'll show you how to do it:
2. Check the weather forecast
One factor we must always take into account, which doesn't depend on us, is the weather. In the mountains, what initially seemed like a sunny day can turn into a rainy day.
I'll show you how to do it:
3. Transfer the route to the device
The route and waypoints you've prepared will automatically upload, and you'll be able to download them to your navigation device without cables. Once downloaded, you'll be ready to head out on an adventure!
